It’s obvious that the infrastructure costs required to support an on-premises data warehouse will initially be much higher than renting an environment from a cloud provider.
But the cloud vs on-premises cost comparison isn’t as simple for organizations that already have investments in their existing onsite data centers.
The initial selling point for cloud platforms was cost reduction. As organizations began to implement applications on the new architecture, they quickly realized that although the cloud provided many advantages – cost savings wasn’t always one of them.
